‘Thank you, Mr. Policeman’: Little girl honors fallen hero, continues his legacy as her purpose

(InvestigateTV) — Part of a poem written by Baton Rouge Police Detective Terry Melancon Jr. goes, “Angels come to the light when their time is needed. As they go to the light, their presence is greeted.”

The Baton Rouge Police Department says those words were written by Detective Melancon shortly before he was shot and killed in the line of duty in August 2005.

In the years following his death, Detective Melancon’s mother befriended a little girl who had become her angel.
