The following chart shows the number of new cases per day by state. The shading indicates the number of new cases per day; the darker the color, the more new cases were reported.

Note: In some cases, a zero may appear for some states on certain dates. Sometimes this corresponds with a weekend, and other times a state may have reported its daily data after the project does its daily archive – meaning the numbers could appear on the following date.

The chart runs from March 12 through April 13. Data Source: COVID Tracking Project, Wyoming Department of Health and Washington State Hospital Association.

The following chart shows the number of new cases per day by metro area (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau). The shading indicates the number of new cases per day; the darker the color, the more new cases were reported. In some cases, zero cases may have been reported by a state in a day. Sometimes this corresponds with a weekend. The chart runs from March 12 through April 13. Data sources: COVID Tracking Project and U.S. Census.
