MONTGOMERY, AL – Raycom Media’s InvestigateTV has released a documentary focused on victims of the opioid crisis and the doctors who abuse the system for their own gain. Licensed to Pill will air in every Raycom Media market.
Raycom Media’s Licensed to Pill is a one-hour special that exposes doctors betraying patients by prescribing addictive opioids to line their own pockets. Some called them drug dealers in white coats.
Licensed to Pill follows up on extensive investigations aired over the past year, during which time a federal raid, charges against doctors and action by Congress were all realized.
“Our national investigative unit worked tirelessly to expose the abuses in the system, and we want to do our part to inform our local consumers,” said Pat LaPlatney, President and CEO, Raycom Media. “It’s a nationwide epidemic, and it’s happening in our own backyards. This documentary will air in more than 50 markets in August.”
“Our investigative team spent nearly a year analyzing millions of records and thousands of doctors,” said Raycom Media Director of Investigations Lee Zurik. “The result is a first-of-its-kind examination that got results.”
A full list of Raycom Media stations and other markets airing the documentary can be found below.
